Sanford Celebration

So "The Celebration" has come and gone for another year. We look forward to going to Grandma Kathy's all summer for some fun times. This year was no different. Me and the boys got to Sanford on Wednesday night right in time to see some of the pageant. It was all about Sanford's history this year and pretty interesting.

The next day we got up and went right to the breakfast, then came home and the boys got to have a ride on the horses, thanks to Gilbert and Thad.

JD and Gilbert on Blaze I think.

Thad and Kyle on Buster.

Off they go.

Every year Mom's yard and the street are full of people getting on their horses and ready for the parade.

Gilbert and Thad rode their horses in the parade. I wasn't brave enough to do it or let my boys do it this year.

Than and Gilbert.

Everyone watching the awesome parade. Gina, Olivia, Coy, Kyler, Ava, Katie, Ryan, JD, Josh and Kyle.

JD, Josh and Kyle getting some candy.

In Sanford and Manassa the parade goes both ways so it is double the fun!

After the parade Gilbert and Thad gave the boys another ride.

Kyler brought some water balloons to take up town. The boys and Katie helped him fill them up. Mostly they broke balloons and ran around getting each other wet, but they have a really nice big cousin. Kyler just let them help him.

Kyle chasing Katie.

Kyler on his bike.

JD getting ready for his ride.

There they go.

Here they come.

Kyle.

Both boys loved riding with Kyler. I can't believe Kyler is getting so big.

Such a good lookin little boy.

After the bbq and a good nap we went to the races. Some parents get really into it but I have learned that my boys aren't the very fastest so I just enjoy watching. JD and the little boy in the green shirt were toward the back of the pack. It might be because they were both pulling on each other's shirts trying to win.

I think at this point the other kid has JD's shirt but it wasn't one sided.

Kyle getting ready for his big race.

Kyle has won before but there is a huge kid in his same age group that is pretty fast so Kyle did good.

Thad. He tripped but I couldn't believe how fast he was. Ryan and Kyler didn't even race because they know they aren't fast. I did race in my age group but didn't win either.

Kyler just loosing the egg toss.

They also had greased pigs this year. If you caught the pig you got to keep it. They just let everyone go so it was pretty much craziness.

Getting ready for the pigs.

See what I mean. Poor pigs. Someone said that they were pretty tame but with 200 kids running toward them they put up a good fight.

Last thing is the two wards have a tug-of-war. First ward always wins, it was looking good for us again this year. Kay Miller even told some of the bigger men to go over to help 2nd ward and nobody would do it. Sanford is just alittle competitive.

They only pulled for maybe five seconds with the rope snapped in two. So it really wasn't fair this year, but 1st ward would have won again.

Then they turn the fire trucks on the kids and it is madness.

You would never know they were in a serious drought in the Valley.

They look like wet little puppies.

Kyle and JD got a ride home with the Miller's in the back of the truck.

After a warm shower Kyle sat down to read Ava a story.

And JD and Katie played blocks.

We had a bbq at Clay and Robyn's house that night in their nice new bbq pit. It was just as fun as always.
