We Got CHICKENS!!
Rabbits? No. Ducks? No. Turtles? No. Pigs? Maybe sometime. Chickens? Yes. We can get chickens. The boys have been wanting some kind of animal for a long time. We had sheep during the summer and sold them a few weeks ago. We had a horse and sold him last spring. We had goats and I am NOT getting another goat. And we always have a few cows and of course the best dog in the world Gus. They had all kinds of ideas. Finally we all settled on chickens. Matt and I figured chickens would be a good idea anyway. We found these chickens in the paper and Matt and the boys got the coop and pen ready and I got the feed and and everything else they needed. Then we went and picked them up.
Every morning we go out and let the chickens out of the coop. We pen them at night so they will be safe. JD is pretty worried about the coyotes getting them in the night.
The boys are throwing out the chicken scratch.
Kyle closes the gate tight so they can't get out and nothing can get in.
Then they go inside the coop and look for any eggs.
Our first egg! Everyone was really excited. We have six chickens. I didn't realize that two or three is old for a chicken so they don't lay a whole bunch but maybe will lay a little better once they get comfortable at their new home. Our plan is to keep them through the winter then get some younger ones.
