The Mysteries of Chickens

So we have chickens. The boys always love to see how many eggs the chickens will lay in a day. It usually isn't very much. Kyle and JD always tell us they that they would love to have some little chicks and we tell them that you have to have roosters to have chicks. So maybe that will help with the next few conversations we had.

JD: Can we get a boy chicken.
Me: No
JD: But I want chicks. Did you know that baby chickens are called chicks?
Me: Yes. But we don't need to have chicks.
JD: Well you need a boy chicken to have baby chicks.
Me: I know.
JD: Well the girl chickens lay the eggs that we eat and the boy chickens lay the eggs that have chicks in them. If we get a boy chicken we will get a nice one.
Me: Boy chickens are not nice and we don't need chicks. And boy chickens don't lay eggs.

To tell you the truth I don't even totally understand the whole chicken egg laying particulars. Only that you need a boy chicken to have chicks and boy chickens don't lay eggs.

We also have some mama cows in our field a few have had calves. So the other day Kyle and JD had this conversation when we picked Kyle up from school.

JD: Kyle! One of the cows layed a egg.
Kyle: Cows don't lay eggs.
JD: I mean the cow layed a baby.
Kyle: Cool.
