Read/Walk-a-thon

On Friday Kyle's school had a read and walk-a-thon. They got people to sponsor them and they read books and walked all day. They wanted to raise $7000 for new computers and basketball hoops for the playground. I don't know how close they got to their goal but Kyle earned $60, so I thought that was good. All the kids got to wear their comfy clothes to school and they could take a pillow and blanket and as many books as they wanted to bring. So in the morning they read by themselves, with their reading buddy, and their reading buddy from third grade. Then they got to go to a puppet show. I wanted to be there in the morning to help with whatever but wasn't able to get there until the walk-a-thon in the afternoon. All the classes had different colored tags on to tell how many laps they walked/ran.
Kyle ran mostly but walked a few too. I went a couple times around with him. Those kids went and went for 45 minutes. They were so tired by the time it was over. They had never been so thirsty in all their lives. So I ran down to Safeway to get them all a popsicle to eat while they sat and listened to different people read to them.
After all the reading was done they got to play Sight Word Bingo. Then it was time for school to be over and Spring Break to begin. So when we get back from Spring Break I guess we will find out how much money was raised.
