Our Big Trip Part 1 (Plane Ride and the Beach!)

We planned a trip to North Carolina this year to go see Matt's Uncle Paul and his family and also to take the boys to the beach for the first time.  We drove to Heather's appartment on July 10th and flew out of Denver the next day.  The boys did so good on the plane.  It was fun to see their reaction to it all.  We packed their backpacks full of activity books, reading books, snacks, and their cameras.  So they had plenty to do.  I told them long ago that I would buy them their own cameras so they could take as many pictures as they wanted.  JD used all of his up but Kyle still has several.  I still need to get them developed.

 Getting ready to take off.

Kyle wanted to fly through the clouds so bad.  It took most of our first flight to find any clouds so when we did he wanted to take a bunch of pictures with his camera.  I told him to take a few and I would take the rest with mine.
 JD having his little nap.
Matt and the boys staying busy while we were in Washington D.C.  airport.  The next plane was a smaller one, it didn't bother the boys at all.  Me on the other had did not fair so well.  I decided I do not love flying.
So we got to Uncle Paul's on the 11th and drove a few hours down to Wrightsville Beach on the 12th.  I couldn't beleive the green everywhere.  I took this picture of a vine that was just taking over everything on the side of the road.  It was crazy.

I told them they probally wanted to take a good nap so they could play all day at the beach.  I turned back around a few minutes later and they were both out cold.
 Coming into Wrightsville Beach.
We checked in and had some lunch and got changed it was all the boys could stand.  They wanted to get out there so bad.
Kyle, JD and David (Matt's cousin)

It was so cute to see them go in the water for the first time.

Matt was just as excited as the boys.

The first day the boys were in the water for a little while.  They liked it good enough but they mostly wanted to play in the sand.  I don't know if the water made them a little nervous or what.

We burried Kyle in the sand and made JD act like he was picking up his head.  The boys thought it was hiliarous.  I wanted to burry JD but he was not having it.

Then Kyle and Uncle Paul dug a really deep hole.  I'm not sure what JD's got going on.

He already had a little tan line.  That was our first day at the beach.  That night we went and ate at a really nice seafood resturant.  We sat outside for a little bit then we had to go inside because it was raining so hard.  The weather was so nice while we were there.  It rained some but not bad.  It kept the sand not super hot and the clouds kept the sun away but it was sitll warm.
The next morning JD got up early and just me and him went for a walk on the beach and found seashells.  It was lots of fun.  When we got back Kyle was awake so we went again.  It was nice to spend a little time with just them and something that I really enjoyed.
The second day they were getting braver and stayed in the water more and hardly any time on the beach.  On the second day we also went to the Battleship NC.

I tried to do our footprints in the sand.  It didn't quite work like I pictured.  On the second night we went and did a little shopping at some of the shops in Wrightsville.  Me and the boys got t-shirts and Matt got some new sunglasses.
The view from our hotel room.  I  couldn't beleive how beautiful it was.  Uncle Paul booked our rooms for us, he did a great job.

The last day of our beach trip.  The boys didn't spend any time on the beach at all.  It was all I could do to get this picture before they went into the water.

Matt and his dad just hanging out.

Uncle Paul and Janie.  Janie loves the beach.  Her and Paul would go every summer growing up.  I was really happy that her and Ken could come with us.
 Janie, Paul and Megan.
 Kyle.
 JD and David.
I did get them to come up for a minute to try to dig another big hole.  It didn't last long.

JD discovered the boogy board on the last day and was getting pretty good at riding the waves.
He would move down the beach every time.  I had to go and get him about ever ten minutes and tell him to move back down.

They loved to jump into the waves.  The last day the waves were getting pretty big.
Megan and Nathan digging their own big hole.
All of us getting ready to leave.
Matt, Ken, Janie, Me, Kyle and JD, Paul, Marci, Megan, Nathan and David.
This guy was so nice.  He was there when we got there and when we left.  He was pretty funny.
I am so glad that we were able to go to the beach and take the boys for the first time.  It was neat to see them have that experience.  It is something they will always remember.  And me too.
